About Us

Solihull Archaeological Group (SAG) has been in existence for more than 50 years and is a thriving group with more than 70 members.

Evening lectures are held every third Tuesday of the month between September and June and we also arrange coach tours to popular places of interest each year, including National Trust and English Heritage properties.

SAG has an enviable reputation for high-quality excavation work, earned initially at Sydenham’s Moat and continuing with a long period of excavation on the site of Knowle Hall; both sites located near Solihull.

In recent years there have been excavations at a moated site near Earlswood and Dingles Dam near Tanworth-in-Arden. SAG excavations are supervised by experienced diggers and there is a role for everyone who is interested at any level of ability. Whether it is research, field walking, digging, recording or conservation work, there is always something to learn and there is the opportunity to develop new skills.
