Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 19th.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, May 19th at the West Midlands Bridge Club (WMBC), as usual, with refreshments from 7.00pm.
Our talk will be about Roman Alcester.

Recent work by Archaeology Warwickshire has led to a re-examination of some aspects of the Roman defences at the Roman town of Alauna – what is now modern day Alcester in Warwickshire. Our work has suggested how the town’s people may have been interacting with the monumental town wall right up until the end of Roman Britain, and possibly after, and what the wall meant to them. It has also led us to reconsider aspects of previous excavations of the wall, and presented new, intriguing questions.

Our speaker will be Simon Davies, Senior Archaeologist at Archaeology Warwickshire, where his role includes looking at archaeological sites from many periods, across the Midlands and beyond, and also doing heritage consultation for development projects that may impact heritage assets
