Our next meeting is on Tuesday, 16th December.

This is our Members’ Evening. Three members are giving talks – they are, in alphabetical order: Alan Evans, who will speak of “Memories of WW2”, which involves letters written by members of Allan’s family. Allan helped with the VE Day exhibition in Solihull Library, and these letters were used there. Next, Stuart McPherson will give a talk entitled “Ghosts of Monkspath Priory”. Stuart has given us a presentation on Shirley Lido and the amount of local research he had done is most impressive, ghost stories are, of course, just the thing for a cold dark December evening. Thirdly, Wendy Thomas will talk about Hall’s Croft. This is an enchanting timber-framed house belonging to the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. It was the home of Shakespeare’s elder daughter, Susanna, and her husband, Dr John Hall, from their marriage in 1607 until after the death of the poet in 1616, when they moved to New Place, left to her, together with most of his estate, by her father. So, three fascinating talks and the evening begins with coffee/tea and mince pies in the bar area (provided free of charge by SAG).
